What a Magnetic Chalkboard!

On Finger Prints on the Fridge Rachelle made a chalkboard wall. Hmmmm a whole wall?  I don't know if I want to use a whole wall, maybe part of a wall.  After looking around my house for a  l-o-n-g while I thought about painting the inside of my wainscoting. Then I thought again. I decided against this, you can see here where I painstakingly painted and chalked... and sanded, sigh...my wainscoting (such a labor of love), therefore I couldn't bare to touch it.

When we moved in to our house- I donated a bunch of frames to a local art program that the previous owner left- but I kept a few for myself- just in case.

In-case happened today.

I also miss the fact that my refrigerator is no longer magnet.
Where am I suppose to put all my LISTS?

Ahhhhh...I brainstormed, did a little cognitive thought, ate dinner and did a little megacognating. I can up with a solution, magnet paint and a chalkboard combination.

Off to Menards- I have a rebate for $33- and some odd cents to use.

I bought Rustoleum chalkboard paint and magnet paint. Yikes! that magnet paint was $22 and it weighted like 10lbs. This better be worth it!

First things first- I removed the inside matting on my picture frame. I had my husband hold up the frame on the wall while I drew a pencil outline of the INSIDE of the frame.

I think it is essential to have the right painting tools to paint with. The better the tools the better the overall paint looks.  I used a soft foam roller and I applied three thin coats of the magnetic paint.  The directions said drying time between coats is 30 minutes.  I followed the directions and waited 30 minutes between each coat.

I also painted to my pencil line

I painted the the chalkboard paint twice, again letting the paint dry 30 minutes between each coat and then I prepped the chalkboard by lighting placing chalk over the whole surface.

I took a dry cloth and removed the access chalk.  Now it is ready for use!

Was it worth it?  ya know the $22? You tell me...

I also made magnets for my chalkboard, click here to see how I did it!

  4. What a great idea! I want to do this in my 7 yr old daughter's room - maybe. We've just managed to convince her that writing on the walls (floors, furniture)is NOT OK.
